Bruiser and Zsa-Zsa
For this week's post I wanted to do something different. So, I thought - a storytime with my boxer dogs! I mean they're literally everywhere I look, and you guys will love them.
Bruiser and Zsa-Zsa
The one on the right is a male - Bruiser, and the one on the left is a female - Zsa-Zsa. We got Zsa-Zsa about 7 years ago and Bruiser about 3 years ago.
OK, now that you know some facts about them, I'm going to start with a story my family and I will never forget:
My Dog Broke My Mom's Knee
Bruiser was a big dog since day one. And as he grew older, he got bigger - so big that he broke my mom's knee!
It all happened one Saturday night when we all walked up to the front gate outside. Our dogs were barking a lot and they were very aggressive, so we decided to go up to the front gate and see why they were barking so much. We stood there for a few minutes looking out and as my mom stood in the middle of our driveway, Bruiser didn't see her behind him, so he turned around and his shoulder hit my mom's knee.
All of a sudden my mom drops to the floor and starts crying. My dad was already with her, helping her to get up, so I made my way over to them and so did my brother. She tried to get up but failed a few times, saying she was in a lot of pain. When we eventually helped her get up, she couldn't walk on her right leg (the side where the knee broke). She sat down on one of our outside chairs, still crying.
After a few seconds of resting, we helped her to the couch in the living room. She said she was in a lot of pain. Then again after a few minutes of resting, we finally helped her to their bedroom. She just laid down with the knee straight. I helped her, very carefully, with her pajamas.
She did sleep for a few hours, not moving the knee, until she had to go to the bathroom. She woke up my dad, and he helped her to the bathroom. When she finished, she burst into tears, saying she won't be able to make it back to bed. I actually woke up from hearing her cry.
The Sunday morning was probably the worst. We called the ambulance because we knew this wasn't just a bump but something was really wrong. I helped my mom get dressed and a few minutes later, the ambulance arrived. The hospital is really close to our house which made everything a lot easier. It took a while for them to lift her onto the ambulance stretcher because of how much pain she was in and they didn't want the knee to move. It actually took longer to lift her onto the ambulance stretcher than driving to the hospital. They gave her some medication for the pain, but lifting her from the bed was still painful, very painful.
We all went to the hospital and they took X-rays of her knee. It turns out that when my dog went into her knee, he bumped into her kneecap which chipped off the corner of the tibia and the reason she was in so much pain was because when she bent the knee or put pressure on the leg, it would scrape the two bones.
They did the surgery a few days later and put a titanium plate on the side of her knee.
~ Here is a picture of her leg in a brace.
~ And a picture of a X-ray that was taken after the surgery.
A week later she was discharged and came home. Her recovery was a long journey, and a story for another day.
I think that's about it for this story. I hope you guys liked it and comment down below if you want to hear the story of her recovery. Thanks for reading! Stay safe!
Bye xx
