Things To Do During Load-Shedding

Hi!

Welcome back to this week's post! Since I live in South Africa, I experience load-shedding often and when I read we'll be having load shedding again, I decided to compile a list of things to do when the electricity is off and you have no Wi-Fi.
Load-shedding is an action to reduce the load on something, especially with electricity. It helps to avoid an overload by a generating plant by interrupting electricity, in other words, we don't have electricity for 2 hours and 30 minutes. It depends on the stage we're in (stage 1 - 8) that determines how many times a day and which time this happens.
My least favorite time is during homeschool hours or a really hot night in the summer. Let's start!

5 things to do to keep yourself busy during load-shedding

read

When the electricity is off during the morning, I'd opt for a good book to read if I don't feel like doing something on my phone. When I read, time flies by and load-shedding will be over in a flash.

manicure + pedicure

Now that the Wi-Fi is off, I realize I haven't given myself a pedicure in a while and I haven't been looking after my nails properly. I like to use these 2 and half hours to give my feet and hands the attention they need and I like to pamper myself a bit. This also takes a while which makes the time fly by.

journal / bullet journal

Just before the electricity goes off I like to download a few pictures from my bullet journal board on Pinterest so I have some inspiration on what to draw and create in my journal. This is my favorite thing to do and it's super peaceful.
I also like to take the time to get my thoughts and feelings down by journaling, because nothing distracts me then and I can really focus on writing.

organize your closet

If you have a messy closet and no time to clean it, load-shedding is the perfect time to do it. It takes an hour or two for my closet and drawers to be organized and cleaned so load-shedding is my favorite time to do it.

experiment with your hair

The other day I looked in the mirror and thought about what hairstyle I wanted to try when the electricity is off. I decided on french braids since I wanted to fit in some bullet journaling before the electricity comes back on but I definitely would've tried some more crazy hairstyles and fun accessories. I think it's also a great way to pass time. You might even find your new favorite hairstyle! Mine changes every week! 😄

And that's it on today's post! I hope you enjoyed it and found at least one activity to keep yourself busy during load-shedding.
I like to use this time to get things done and it can really help with finishing those important tasks you couldn't finish because you always get distracted. I'm super guilty of rather binge-watching YouTube than journaling or sorting out my closet, lol!
