The Perfect Christmas (A Poem)

Merry Christmas everyone!

For today I knew I wanted to write something special so earlier this month I decided to write a poem about the perfect Christmas day! I hope you love it as much as I do, I'm really proud of this piece!

The Perfect Christmas 

May you have a merry Christmas 

The living room warm with the crackling fire in the fireplace Santa entered at midnight

The tree lit with various shades of colors since the beginning of December 

The euphoria in children's eyes when they find that Santa has responded to their letters

The soft, festive music playing from the radio which you sing along to 

The scent of your mother's cooking floating from the kitchen, she’s been stressing about it being ready on time 

The family and friends arriving with different shapes and sizes wrapped in colorful wrapping paper

The sense of humor from your father and uncle causing many to laugh

The table now filled with food and bordered with loved ones holding hands to pray

The jokes that are told, the stories that are shared, the tears that are shed, the memories that are revisited

The trifle for dessert, or the fruit cake or the ice cream giving the children another rush of energy

The hugs and kisses goodbye that last half an hour

The time spent cleaning the dishes, tidying the house, pulling a blanket over the one who fell asleep on the couch

The hot cocoa drank after a festive day of celebration as you sink into the recliner

The way you think of how wonderful the day was, grinning at a joke your comedian uncle shared, one you'll remember for all of next year

And the way you fall asleep right after sliding under the covers, allowing the warmth of your bed to envelope you on this cool Christmas night

And may every ounce of it be perfect
