"what is it about december?" | Christmas Poetry Collection: Poem 1
What is it about December
that makes everyone warm and bright?
Is it the friends we get to see or
the twinkling of lights?
Is it the snow falling like
glitter from the sky
or the special memories
I get to call mine?
Is it seeing my mother in the kitchen,
baking Grandma’s cookies
or the way the Christmas tree is skew
because Dad had no idea what he was doing?
Is it the stockings that are filled with surprises
or the candles my sister bought because it
smells like “Christmas spices”?
Is it Grandpa fixing the radio so
I can listen to my music
or my brother complaining about
how busy the mall is?
What is it about December?
I think it’s in the air,
a reminder to everyone that
there are people who care.
Something about this month
emboldens family, peace, and love
and my wish to you is that
all these things stay true.
May this Christmas be one to remember
and happy December!

about the poem
Every year, the month December just brings the best vibes and I wanted to write a poem that captured that feeling. I added things that I think of when the words "December" and "holidays" are mentioned. I thought this poem would be perfect for kicking off the Christmas poetry collection!
Happy Holidays x
